FlexBox One is a roughly 640 sq. ft. modular home built from two 40-foot High Cube containers, engineered as a complete residential system rather than simply a converted shipping container.

Designed for The Bahamas and similar island environments, FlexBox combines modern living space with integrated energy, water and resilience systems in a compact, repeatable format.

The two-container configuration creates a wider, continuous interior rather than a narrow container-style layout.

FlexBox One is designed around four primary zones:

Bedroom
A dedicated private sleeping space with built-in storage and natural light.

Kitchen + Living
An open central living area with a full residential kitchen, dining capacity and indoor-outdoor connection.

Bathroom + Utility Core
Plumbing, water systems and other essential services are concentrated into an efficient central zone.

Home Office
A dedicated workspace designed for remote work, connectivity and flexible use as a guest or multipurpose room.

A covered exterior deck extends the usable living area while maintaining the compact footprint of the core structure.


Built-In Independence

FlexBox can be configured with an integrated infrastructure package designed to reduce dependence on conventional utility networks.

Solar Power

A roof-mounted or adjacent solar array supplies renewable energy directly to the home’s electrical system.

Battery Storage

Approximately 12–15 kWh of battery storage provides nighttime power, outage protection and energy management.

Backup Power

An auxiliary power unit can automatically provide additional generation when solar production and stored energy are insufficient.

Water Systems

FlexBox can combine:

Rainwater collection for bulk household water
Filtration and treatment for safe domestic use
Atmospheric water generation for potable water and additional resilience

Rather than depending exclusively on atmospheric water generation, the systems work together to create a more efficient and practical island water solution.

  • Water storage and filtration
  • Atmospheric potable-water generation
  • Remote system monitoring

Systems can be configured according to site conditions, occupancy and desired level of independence.


What Does a FlexBox Cost?

FlexBox is currently being developed as a standardized modular building system, with final pricing dependent on site conditions, finishes and infrastructure requirements.

A fully installed FlexBox One is expected to fall broadly within:

$115,000–$165,000+

excluding land.

More complex sites, upgraded finishes, extensive decks, foundations, utility work and higher-capacity energy or water systems may increase project cost.

A fully equipped first-generation installation with energy and water independence may reach approximately $155,000–$195,000, particularly on challenging sites.

As FlexBox moves into standardized production, the objective is to reduce construction cost through repeatable engineering, prefabrication and volume procurement.


Not a Cheap Container House

FlexBox is not being developed as the lowest-cost way to turn a shipping container into a dwelling.

The container is simply the structural starting point.
